The Highland Championships, Alness 11th March 2023

Scotland Tang Soo Do have been so busy recently that we are only just getting around to reporting on The Highland Championships!

This year the Competition was hosted by Master Stevie Mezals (Caithness Tang Soo Do) with help from Master Megan (BKMAS, Alness). The venue for the Competition this year was Alness. Alness is a town and civil parish in Ross and Cromarty in The Highlands of Scotland. It lies near the mouth of the River Averon, near the Cromarty Firth.

80 competitors travelled from around the North of Scotland to compete, with 8 different categories available for each competitor to enter including, Hyungs, Bo staff, Nunchaku, Sword, Knife, Sparring and Team Forms.

Unfortunately Master Kelly O’Connor (head of Scotland Tang Soo Do) was unable to attend the Competition this year due to illness, but she was delighted to be able to assist from the sidelines with Social Media posts throughout the day! Master Michelle Raisborough (STSD, 5th Dan) stepped in with some words of wisdom at the start of the proceedings and Master Stevie Mezals ensured the day ran smoothly.

The biggest emphasis of the day was on building friendships and friendly competition spirit!

Students from around The Highlands and Moray did an amazing job and the true spirit of Tang Soo Do was truly felt with some making lasting new friendships and building on connections already made. It would not be a competition without some trophies and results however and we had plenty!
