The Scottish Open, Elgin 10th June 2023

The Scottish Open was held on 10th June 2023. Over 130 Competitors and visiting teams from England, Wales and Holland travelled to Elgin in Moray to compete at the tournament and see old Tang Soo Do friends.

Teams from Scotland included DKMA, Inverness Tang Soo Do, Highland Soo Bahk Do, Evolution Martial Arts, MPower, BKMAS, RYSE and Caithness Tang Soo Do.

Visiting teams included Elite Tang Soo Do from London, Ho Sin Sul from Holland, Traditional Tang Soo Do Federation from Wales and Hwa Rang Tang Soo Do from Derbyshire.

With 65 divisions to get through, it was an early start! The event started with the usual line up to kick the competition off. Master Dominique, Championship Director, welcomed all to the event and explained how the day would run. There was much excitement in the air!

The Masters division was the first event of the day with a great display of Tang Soo Do, there was even a very impressive ‘Split Kick’ which wowed the judges and the audience!

The Black Belt divisions followed and finally the coloured belts. The whole day was a spectacular display of Martial Arts, with some very promising newer coloured belts competing for the first time and impressing the judges.

It’s always a treat to watch the Creative Weapons categories! Our competitors are invited to make up their own Hyung with a weapon of their choice. It is fantastic to watch because the competitors can choose each move and really show off their individual skills and talent.

Congratulations to all those that competed, many for the first time, and to all the medal winners! As always a big thank you to all that gave up their time and put in the effort to make this event happen! Without the support of our Masters and Black Belts that willingly give up their spare time to judge we would not be able to run these tournaments. Special thanks to Master Dominique Stephen and her team for running another fantastic Scottish Competition.

Tang Soo!
