For the second year in a row Newcastle was chosen as the perfect city to host the British Invitational Championships. Held in Northumbria University Sports Central on 23rd March 2024, with over 125 competitors.
Master Dominique stealthily battled through illness leading up to the day to ensure she could be there to host the day and oversee the running of the tournament. Whilst this might not be considered the ideal run up to a competition for any host, the day still ran without a hitch due to Master Dominque’s vast experience at hosting such events.

Competitors and judges travelled from as far afield as Germany to take part in the proceedings and meet friends and colleagues, old and new! It is always great to see the true Martial Arts spirit amongst the competitors, whilst all equally wishing to win something for themselves, great delight is taken in seeing others do well and lasting friendships are formed during such occasions.
This amazing image was captured by Master Dominique during the course of the day, with her enviable view from the top table.
Master Dominique said “I was thrilled to witness the power of unity as individuals from diverse federations joined forces, setting aside political differences to orchestrate an exceptional event. Together, we’ve proven that collaboration knows no boundaries, and when passion and purpose converge, remarkable things happen. Here’s to celebrating the spirit of camaraderie and excellence. The goal is to help create growth of Tang Soo Do between federations, and the British Championships demonstrated that perfectly.”

This years event was attended by competitors from Germany, England and Scotland including Hwa Rang, Zi Shiying, DBBAI, Sawston, Bristol TSD, Elite TSD, Highland SBD, Mpower, DKMA, ITSD, RYSE, BKMAS and EMA.
It wouldn’t be a competition without some winners though!
And this years Grand Champions were: Junior Black Belt – Myles Wilson, Senior Black Belt Female – Dannielle Paddon and Senior Black Belt Male – Freddie Steele.

We are already looking forward to next years event, however in the meantime there are plenty more competitions coming up that Team Scotland will be competing at including The Welsh Open, European Championships and more locally The Highland Championships to name a few. Oh yes, and let’s not forget that WE ARE HOSTING THE WTSDF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS on home soil in Inverness 8th – 10th August 2025, make sure you don’t miss it!
Tang Soo!
