Tang Soo Do Scottish Nationals, 7th June 2025, Lossiemouth

Tang Soo Do clubs from throughout Scotland came together this June to compete at the Scottish Nationals hosted by Scotland Tang Soo Do Instructor SBN Pete Carey. There were 113 Competitors in total attending the event, all bringing their ‘A GAME’ to compete in some very tough divisions.

The day began with our traditional line up, everyone was welcomed to the event, including Scotland Tang Soo Do VIPs Master, Jan De-Vry founder of STSD, and Master Kelly Murphy, Leader of the STSD group. We were very privileged to have the opportunity to test out new mats, acquired for the upcoming World Championships in August. It gave us the chance to give the mats a wash down and first use to ‘scuff them a bit’ so they don’t slide as much! Students had the opportunity to experience competing on the new surface, it’s amazing how a different floor can require adaptations to how we perform, particularly in the Hyungs and Weapons divisions.

With the official line up complete, the competition got underway. There were plenty of medals to be won with 66 divisions in total, and 3 Grand Champion Trophies up for grabs, all was to play for. SBN Pete said of the event “Competitors ranged from age 6 to 54 which is fantastic, and shows there are no limits when it comes to Martial Arts, there is something for everyone”.

Competitors from Edinburgh, Caithness, Invergordon, Alness, Culloden, Inverness, Forres, Elgin, Lossiemouth and Aberdeen took part at the Competition, with some of the best Martial Artists Scotland has to offer in attendance.

The competitors performing the best across all disciplines are awarded the Grand Champion trophies at the end of the event.

This years winners of these prestigious awards were:

🏆 Coloured Belt Grand Champion – Lily Fraser – Inverness Tang Soo Do – 40 points

🏆 Junior Black Belt Grand Champion – Myles Wilson (Myles trophy was accepted on his behalf by Instructor Master Stephen) – S.K.M.A. – 40 points

🏆 Adult Black Belt Grand Champions – Zona Morence – Inverness Tang Soo Do – 45 points

We are now looking forward to a very busy time leading up to the World Championships. There will be plenty to do to get ready for this very prestigious event, this year being hosted by Scotland Tang Soo Do in Inverness for the first time.
