The Competition season continued at the weekend with our local Highland Championships. This year the Competition was held at the Hilton Community Centre, Inverness. Organised and hosted by 3rd Dan Black Belt Laura Stewart from Inverness, with 85 competitors from across Scotland.
For the first time at The Highland Championships, this year Grand Champion Trophies were up for grabs and awarded to those that performed the best across all the divisions. And the inclusion of a category for the youngest of our Tang Soo Do practitioners was a very cute addition.

The Championships was attended and watched over by Scotland Tang Soo Do’s Senior Master Kelly Murphy. There were plenty of medals on offer, and the day got under way with Team Forms. The Team Form consists of 3 competitors synchronising their movements and performing a Form (Hyung) together. Points are awarded based on overall synchronisation as well as the correct execution of the form and the Martial Arts skills demonstrated.

The Black Belt and Coloured Belt Divisions followed with a fantastic display of Martial Arts. Respect for each other and great sportsmanship were shown throughout the day. New friendships were made and older friendships sealed. It’s not just the competition that attracts our participants to these types of events, it’s the cameraderie and being surrounded by like minded individuals, shaping the future generations of Tang Soo Do Instructors and Masters!

The Grand Champion winners from the Highland Championships 2024 were:
Myles Wilson – Black Belt Grand Champion, DKMA
Liam Urquhart – Senior Coloured Belt Grand Champion, BKMAS
Toby Searle – Junior Coloured Belt Grand Champion, DKMA
The Winners of the Highland Shield with the most points accumulated on the day was DKMA for the 10th year running.

A very well run Championships, congratulations to SBN Laura on a successful day, especially as this is the first time Laura has organised and hosted such a prestigious event. Not only did Laura ensure the event ran smoothly and on schedule, she also competed herself. A job well done!
Congratulations also to all the medal and trophy winners, you all did your Instructors proud. And if you didn’t win this time, there’s no need to worry as there’s always next time!
Tang Soo!
